Question 1

Is it worth getting noise cancelling earbuds?

Accepted Answer

For many people, yes. ANC (Active Noise Cancelling) earbuds are designed to create a more immersive, distraction-free listening experience by actively reducing background sounds such as traffic, aircraft noise, or surrounding chatter. They achieve this through built-in microphones and sound-processing technology that analyse external noise and counter it in real time. If you’d like a clearer explanation of the technology behind it, this guide on How does active noise-cancelling work breaks it down in simple terms. In everyday use, ANC earbuds are especially worthwhile for travel, work, or any situation where focus and comfort matter.

Question 2

Is ANC the same as noise cancelling?

Accepted Answer

Not exactly. Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) is a specific type of noise-cancelling technology that uses microphones and sound waves to actively reduce ambient noise. External sounds are analysed and countered in real time — this is what you'll find in ANC headphones, including soundcore's Sleep A30, which combines ANC with a sleep-friendly design for a quieter night's rest. The broader term \"noise cancelling\" can also refer to passive noise isolation — a physical approach that relies on snug-fitting ear tips or soft materials to block out sound without any electronics involved. Many everyday earbuds offer both: passive isolation from the fit, and ANC on top for deeper quiet.

Question 3

Which is better, ENC or ANC?

Accepted Answer

ANC (Active Noise Cancelling) is better for reducing environmental noise during music playback, while ENC (Environmental Noise Cancellation) enhances call clarity by filtering out background noise during phone calls. If you need quiet listening, go for ANC mode earbuds; if you make frequent calls in noisy places, ENC is more beneficial. Liberty 5, Liberty 4 Pro, Liberty 4 NC, and P40i combine ANC for listening with multi-mic call processing, so you often get both in one pair; check the soundcore app for the controls available for the product you choose. Please read this article to learn more about ANC vs ENC.

Question 4

Are earbuds better with or without ANC?

Accepted Answer

It really depends on how and where you use them. Earbuds with ANC are ideal if you want a quieter, more immersive listening experience, especially in noisy environments such as planes, busy offices, or public transport. They help minimise background noise so you can focus or enjoy audio at lower volumes.
On the other hand, if staying aware of your surroundings matters—like when walking outdoors or commuting in traffic—non-ANC earbuds can feel more practical and safer. That’s also why some users look for a middle ground, such as the best open earbuds with ANC, which balance noise reduction with environmental awareness for everyday convenience.

Question 5

Are ANC earphones effective for airplane noise?

Accepted Answer

Yes, soundcore ANC earbuds can be effective at reducing airplane noise. Their active noise cancellation technology targets low-frequency sounds such as engine hum and cabin vibrations, while passive isolation from the ear tips further blocks ambient noise. Results vary by model, fit, ear-tip seal, and the type of cabin noise, but reducing background sound may help you listen at a more comfortable volume.

Question 6

Can ANC earbuds damage your ears with long-term use?

Accepted Answer

When used responsibly, ANC earbuds are generally safe for long-term use. By reducing background noise, active noise cancellation may help you listen comfortably at lower volume levels than you would in a noisy environment. Listening volume and duration still matter. To maintain ear health over extended daily use, it’s a good idea to take regular listening breaks and avoid excessively high volumes. If you experience pain, pressure, ringing, or hearing changes, stop using the earbuds and seek advice from a qualified professional.

Question 7

Can ANC earbuds be used for workouts?

Accepted Answer

Yes, manysoundcore ANC earbuds are designed with workouts in mind. They feature secure-fitting ear tips, sweat resistance, and lightweight construction that stays comfortable during movement. For fitness users, the soundcore Sport X20 is a great option to consider, thanks to its workout-focused fit and reliable performance during active sessions. While ANC helps reduce gym and outdoor noise, it is still recommended to keep volume at a moderate level for safety awareness in traffic or crowded areas. Question 8

Do ANC earbuds improve call quality in noisy environments?

Accepted Answer

It depends on which part of the call you mean. Active noise cancellation (ANC) reduces the ambient noise you hear in your own ears, which can make it easier to focus on a call in busy places such as cafés, offices, airports, and public transport. However, clearer call quality for the person on the other end depends more on microphone processing—such as call noise cancellation and voice pickup—than on listening ANC alone.
Many soundcore ANC earbuds combine ANC with multi-microphone call processing to help separate your voice from background noise. Liberty 5 Pro and Liberty 5 Pro Max go further with Whisper-Clear Calls, using 8 MEMS microphones, 2 bone-conduction sensors, and the Thus™ AI chip to help keep your voice clear in noisy environments. For a deeper explanation of how listening ANC and call-mic processing differ, see ANC vs mic noise cancellation for phone calls.
That is also why many people look for the best earbuds for phone calls with clear voice quality when working remotely or travelling. When strong ANC and capable call-mic processing work together, ANC earbuds can be well suited for work-from-home setups, business calls, and video meetings—even while commuting or on the move.

Question 9

Which ANC earbuds are best for side sleepers?

Accepted Answer

For side sleepers, ultra-compact ANC earbuds like the soundcore Sleep A30 are designed for a lower-profile fit. Their ergonomic design can reduce pressure compared with bulkier earbuds or over-ear headphones, although comfort varies by person. These earbuds combine noise reduction with an all-night comfort focus for sleeping at home, on planes, or during train journeys. If you’re looking for more options specifically designed for restful sleep, check out the best noise-cancelling earbuds for sleeping, which prioritise comfort, gentle ANC, and long-lasting wear for side sleepers.

Question 10

How long does the battery last on ANC earbuds?

Accepted Answer

Battery life varies by model and ANC mode, but many soundcore ANC earbuds offer around 8-10 hours of playback on a single charge, with the charging case extending total use across the day or multiple days. Liberty 5 Pro and Liberty 5 Pro Max offer up to 12 hours of playtime on a single charge and up to 50 hours with the charging case in normal mode. With ANC on, both models offer up to 6.5 hours per charge and up to 28 hours with the case.

Question 11

What is the difference between Liberty 5 Pro and Liberty 5 Pro Max?

Accepted Answer

Liberty 5 Pro focuses on premium ANC, Whisper-Clear Calls, LDAC support, and long battery life. Liberty 5 Pro Max includes those core ANC and call features, then adds a 1.78-inch AMOLED touchscreen charging case, AI recording, transcription, summaries, and real-time translation in 100+ languages when connected online. Basic recording does not require a subscription, while transcription and summaries require a subscription. Eligible launch purchasers receive 120 free minutes per month for 24 months. For a detailed comparison, please refer to Liberty 5 Pro vs Liberty 5 Pro Max.

Question 12

What is transparency mode on ANC earbuds and when should I use it?

Accepted Answer

Transparency mode (sometimes labeled hear-through or ambient sound) pipes outside audio back through the drivers so you can hear announcements, traffic, or colleagues without removing the earbuds. It is not the same as turning ANC off, because the microphones are still active but the DSP goal is awareness rather than cancellation. Use it at crosswalks, airport gates, or office pods where situational cues matter, then switch back to full ANC when you want isolation again. On soundcore models that support dual-form or open-ear hybrids, read the quick-start card in the app so you do not confuse transparency with passive venting alone.

Question 13

Can soundcore Liberty ANC earbuds connect to two devices at once?

Accepted Answer

Liberty 5, Liberty 5 Pro, Liberty 4 Pro, and Liberty 4 NC support multipoint connection, allowing you to stay paired to your phone and laptop simultaneously. If you use one of these products, start by fully updating its firmware inside the soundcore app, then enable the multipoint or dual-connection control shown for that product and pair devices one at a time. For any Liberty series earbuds not named above, check the product page before setup rather than assuming multipoint is available.

Question 14

Which ANC earbuds are best for full-day work calls without ear fatigue?

Accepted Answer

Liberty 5 Pro and Liberty 5 Pro Max use Whisper-Clear Calls with 8 MEMS microphones, 2 bone-conduction sensors, and the Thus™ AI chip to help separate your voice from background noise. Liberty Buds 2 adds a low-profile, bean-shaped fit with a Comfort Noise Cancellation mode designed for lower-noise office settings; comfort still varies by person, so confirm exact fit and specifications on the product page once it's published.
